As I sit here and reflect over the past year of my life, I am reminded that God is one amazing Author. First off, the greatest love story ever written and told is the love story of Christ and His bride, the Church. I love what Ephesians 5:25 has to say about love. The text says, “Husbands, love your wife, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.” When I read this Scripture, which, I have been doing for quite some time now. This Scripture breathes life into me. It allows me to join hand to hand with God on how to give myself up in order to love.
“Husbands, love your wife, just as Christ loves the Church.” The focus and question here first should be, “How does Christ love the Church?” Lets see, Christ took on the wrath of all humanity, became the mediator between God and man, took a brutal beating, even until the point no one could recognize Him, drugged a rugged cross to a hill top, had nails driven through Him, scrutinized, mocked and humiliated all so you and I can receive salvation. Wow! When we think about the greatest love story ever written and told, you and I should always share the love of Christ.
What’s so amazing is, God is writing all of our love stories. In this season of life, I am celebrating my love story. Her name is Jasmine Samarco. Jasmine and I’s love story is unique. It’s imperfect. But at the same time, it is beautiful. It reminds me of Christ relationship with His bride, the Church. As followers of Christ, we know how to make our Christian journey a tad bit difficult. Even though we can be difficult, Christ love doesn’t change. This is Jasmine and I’s story. We have been through many ups and downs but through it all our love has not changed. In fact, we understand how to love each other better because of what we’ve been through.
When you think of your love story, what comes to mind? Are you excited God has the pen in His hand? I know I am. I got tired of trying to be the author. When we allow God to have authorship of our lives, God goes before us. I am reminded of Ephesians 2:10. The text says, “For we are His workmanship. Created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we may walk into them.” That’s love my friends! God already has something set up for us. All you and I have to do is get in alignment with Him and allow Him to write the story! Sounds simple right? We know it can be complex at times so here are 5 practical steps to join God in writing your love story.
- Submit your heart to God. – Proverbs 3:5-6
- Seek forgiveness of past hurts and pains. – Ephesians 4:31-32
- Trust His plan for your love life. – Isaiah 12:2-5
- Be patient. – James 1:2-4
- Grow in your walk with God. Singleness is a gift. – 1 Corinthians 7:1-9
I’m excited for the journey we all are on. Life is all about the process. For those of us that have become followers of Christ we are all in this process called, sanctification. Sanctification means to be set apart. It means to be set apart from one’s old life, to be set apart from the world, to join in union with God and to be made more like Christ. Each day we should be striving to become more Christ like. Eventually as we leave our earthly bodies behind and leave this world we will become totally righteous, separated from all evil. (See 1 Thessalonians 5:23, 1 Corinthians 1:30, 1 John 3:2)
My friends, that’s mega love! No more pain, worries, stress, hurt, death will ever bother us all because of the love of God!
This is the hope. As you continue to journey with God, learn from Him, go through ups an down with Him, experience His love, grace, mercy you will learn how to love and communicate with Him better than you do now.
I believe it’s time to give God the pen!
